Overview

Department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 2009, with a vision to establish it as center of excellence in the field of Civil Engineering. Education here prepares students for an exciting career in industry, Governmental jobs, and universities. They also are given platform to form startup companies. The department has well equipped laboratories and our faculty is dedicated to excellence in teaching. It has a fine blend of well experienced faculty and young & dynamic faculty. The Students get an opportunity to work on real life projects to groom them for professional life. There is plenty of opportunity to interact with faculty and to receive individual attention. Students are also engaged in Internship of six months in their sixth semester because of which they become industry ready.

The department is engaged intensively Water and Wastewater treatment research. Waste reuse is also another area in which few researchers are working. Department has a funding of 5 million Euros under Horizon 2020.

Recent Activities in the Civil Department

Renewal of MoU with Ecosan Services Foundation

MoU of SIT with Ecosan Services Foundation, working in the water, wastewater and sanitation sector, is renewed.

While renewing the MOU, we have extended the scope of the MOU and Symbiosis Community Outreach Programme and Extension (SCOPE) is also now part of this MOU. The lead team from SIT, Prof. Kanchan Khare, Head Civil Engineering along with Mr. Sagar Kolekar, Dr. Shirin from SCOPE visited ESF office and MoU was signed by Dr. Dayanand Panse, Director, Ecosan Services Foundation and Ms. Radhika Borgaonkar, Project Manager, Ecosan Services Foundation.

PAVITR Project Pilot plant funded by European Union and DST- Project Bhoomi Poojan

Bhoomi Poojan of the selected site for the construction work of “Anaerobic System and Constructed Wetland for Waste Water treatment” was done on 8th July 2021 as a tradition to mark the start of the construction activity. The ritual was held in the presence of Deputy Director Academics Prof. Arundhati Warke along with entire PAVITR team from Civil Engineering Department and other faculty members of the department.

Participation in Mapathon, IIT Bombay

Mapathon is map making competition for a specific problem statement. This event, organised jointly by IIT Bombay, AICTE and ISRO, to make maps using Indian remote sensing data. The primary objective is to understand the potential of Indian remote sensing data and make maps for Indian regions using free open source mapping software (QGIS). Three teams participated, each having four members of the students working along TTC-Anchorage Club.

The competitions were divided into 2 major domains (Construction Management and Environmental) of civil engineering. The judging panel was comprised of alumni and faculty related to that field.

On 22nd Jan 2020, “Awareness Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights” was conducted for the Civil Engineering faculty and research scholars. The invited speaker was Dr Amit Kumar Tiwari, Head-IP Cell, Symbiosis Centre for Research and Innovation, Symbiosis International University.


PROGRAM OUTCOMES (PO)

Engineering Graduates will be able to:

  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
