Overview
Department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 2009, with a vision to establish it as center of excellence in the field of Civil Engineering. Education here prepares students for an exciting career in industry, Governmental jobs, and universities. They also are given platform to form startup companies. The department has well equipped laboratories and our faculty is dedicated to excellence in teaching. It has a fine blend of well experienced faculty and young & dynamic faculty. The Students get an opportunity to work on real life projects to groom them for professional life. There is plenty of opportunity to interact with faculty and to receive individual attention. Students are also engaged in Internship of six months in their sixth semester because of which they become industry ready.
The department is engaged intensively Water and Wastewater treatment research. Waste reuse is also another area in which few researchers are working. Department has a funding of 5 million Euros under Horizon 2020.

Recent Activities in the Civil Department
Renewal of MoU with Ecosan Services Foundation
MoU of SIT with Ecosan Services Foundation, working in the water, wastewater and sanitation sector, is renewed.
While renewing the MOU, we have extended the scope of the MOU and Symbiosis Community Outreach Programme and Extension (SCOPE) is also now part of this MOU. The lead team from SIT, Prof. Kanchan Khare, Head Civil Engineering along with Mr. Sagar Kolekar, Dr. Shirin from SCOPE visited ESF office and MoU was signed by Dr. Dayanand Panse, Director, Ecosan Services Foundation and Ms. Radhika Borgaonkar, Project Manager, Ecosan Services Foundation.
PAVITR Project Pilot plant funded by European Union and DST- Project Bhoomi Poojan
Bhoomi Poojan of the selected site for the construction work of “Anaerobic System and Constructed Wetland for Waste Water treatment” was done on 8th July 2021 as a tradition to mark the start of the construction activity. The ritual was held in the presence of Deputy Director Academics Prof. Arundhati Warke along with entire PAVITR team from Civil Engineering Department and other faculty members of the department.

2000 Watt Smart Cities Certification Project
As a part of the prestigious 2000 Watt Smart Cities certification Project , a kickoff workshop was attended by the project team members from Civil Engineering Department who would be working on the “Smart Building Criteria” along with other Institutions under SIU.

Hands-on Session on Revit was organized at the department for Civil Diploma students as a part of Two week Summer school program organized by Symbiosis Institute of Technology and was delivered by software expert from our Technology partner EduCADD.
Recent TECH TALKS @ CIVIL
Team of "Sigma Consultants India Pvt Ltd" trained our Techfest Organizers and Participants on 2nd May 2021 for Six Sigma White Belt certification as a token for appreciating their efforts put in smoothly conducting the techfest.
A webinar on "Six Sigma for Optimization" was organized on 7th May 2021 for Third and Final year students between 1 pm to 3 pm. It was delivered by a team of 5 experts from "Sigma Consultants India Pvt Ltd (Sigmacon)" lead by Mrs. Pranita Dange, Director and Mr. Dhananjay Apte, Director at Sigmacon.
Tech talk on “Innovation in Construction” was held on 29th April 2021 delivered by Mr. Prashant Nagalapur, Turner Technical Services.
Tech Talk on “Smart Cities and Urban Planning Perspective” was conducted on 16th May 2021 and delivered by Urban Planning expert Mr. Shiva Kshirsagar.
A talk was delivered by Industry Expert Dr. Asita Dalvi on Geology and Soil mechanics.
Glimpse of Capomaestro 21- TechFest of Civil Engineering Department SIT
Civil Engineering students designed their own website for Tech Fest promotion.
CESS Team planned four major technical events along with 4 fun events. Capomaestro hosted more than 3000 participants for its virtual events. It was a grand success.
The team designed its own Gaming App for Kaun Banega Champion and Uno.
Prize Distribution for events took place on a virtual platform and students designed and developed virtual ceremony for giving away prizes.

DHI is an international water software development and engineering consultancy firm with headquarters in Denmark. The not-for-profit organization addresses all challenges in water environments through consultancy services, MIKE Powered by DHI water modeling software, business applications, data portals and operational services. DHI has 40 offices throughout the world, with software development centres in Singapore and Denmark.

Independence Day Celebration 15th August 2020
The President of CESS celebrated this day by hoisting the flag along with his mother showing women empowerment and the importance of women in society. The live broadcast of the event was shared among all the team members and students.
Online Prize Distribution
CESS 2020 started the odd semester 2020-21 by holding the first ever e-prize distribution ceremony to certify the earlier CESS team and hand out certificates of various achievements such as academic topper, sports, co curricular, best student etc
Participation in Mapathon, IIT Bombay
Mapathon is map making competition for a specific problem statement. This event, organised jointly by IIT Bombay, AICTE and ISRO, to make maps using Indian remote sensing data. The primary objective is to understand the potential of Indian remote sensing data and make maps for Indian regions using free open source mapping software (QGIS). Three teams participated, each having four members of the students working along TTC-Anchorage Club.
Road safety event by i- Safe IIT Delhi
The team participated in the road safety event by i-Safe, IIT Delhi. Many activities such as poster making, webinar and spreading awareness were successfully completed. We secured in Top 50 category in India.
World Water Day celebration
President of CESS created a small video regarding world water day to spread awareness. This video was shared among the students during the early phase of lockdown.
Online paper Presentation
On the occasion of engineers day, the department of civil engineering (CESS) had organized an online paper presentation competition for civil engineering students. The competitions were divided into 2 major domains (Construction Management and Environmental) of civil engineering. The judging panel was comprised of alumni and faculty related to that field.

On the occasion of engineer’s day, the department of civil engineering (CESS) had organized a variety of technical and non-technical events along with TTC-ANCHORAGE inauguration through digital lamp lighting. The technical events were hosted by TTC-ANCHORAGE.
Online quiz during Teachers’ Day Celebration
On Teacher’s day, the CESS team (Civil Engineering Society of Symbiosis) organized a little function for the faculty members of the Civil Department. To make the event interesting CESS team had arranged a few events like movie bluff, quiz, tagline recognizer for the faculties and staff.
